While IPSec VPNs have advantages for site to site VPN connectivity, SSL VPNs deliver an improved
method of connection for remote workers, business partners and third parties. Additionally, they
can be integrated with existing authentication systems and directory services.
SSL VPNs are easier to implement than IPSec VPNs, for remote clients, as they do not involve
having to access each remote PC for software installation. SSL VPNs are accessed securely
through a web browser on any Internet connected PC. Unlike IPSec VPNs which operate at the
network layer, SSL VPNs operate at the application layer allowing network administrators to
provide granular access to backend systems
- Server based computing
- Web applications
- Desktop client (with need to work offline - ie synchronise)
